Monday Morning Musing: Snowflake Pro

Lately Helen and I have been thinking about sharing more about our writing journeys. So today I thought I'd share with you guys about Snowflake Pro, which has been revolutionary in helping me plan and organise my story.
A day in my life before I got Snowflake Pro:

I write daily to- do lists. I have a clip board that sits on our kitchen bench with a notepad inside. Every night I write a do to list for the next day. For 3 out of 5 days one item on the list reads: work on story. So I'd "work" on my story when my daughter napped during the day. Trouble was this "work" was vague and fruitless. I'd spend hours just trying to plan, write, character profile to no avail.

A day in my life after I got Snowflake Pro:

I write daily to- do lists. I have a clip board that sits on our kitchen bench with a notepad inside. Every night I write a do to list for the next day. For 3 out of 5 days one item on the list reads: Step 1of Snowflake. So I'd work on my story when my daughter napped during the day. Except this time when my daughter sleeps my time is really productive!!

So what is Snowflake Pro? It's an awesome novel planning programme designed by writer and software designer Randy Ingermanson. It's a 10 step programme designed to help you plan your novel in such a way that you know it inside and out even before you start writing the actual manuscript.

This programme REALLY got my brain thinking about my story in great detail. It has really guided me in where my story is going and pushed me to nail down what the story is about. Since I'm a planner, this programme is just what I've needed.

Does this sound like something you could use? Stay tuned for my next MMM when I'll go into more detail about the 10 steps! :)

If you'd like to check out more in the meantime, take a look at the website of Snowflake Pro creator, Randy Ingermanson.

  1. Randy's Snowflake is definitely a MUST for planners. Sadly I'm a pantser and only as I begin with a loose plot do I get to know where my characters want to take me. So it takes all types!
